Welcome to Yunhong's Home Page
I am a research scientist, open source software developer, and network engineer at the National Center for Data Mining (NCDM), which is a research lab managed by the University of Illinois of Chicago (UIC). I also got my PhD degree in Computer Science here in Fall 2005. I am the lead developer of UDT and Sector/Sphere.
I was from China, where I attended universities in Hangzhou and Beijing, respectively. People around me usually call me "Gu" (pronounced similarly as "good" without the "d", in Chinese character 谷). Yes, that is my last name, which is just simpler and easier to pronounce than my first name. I would not mind at all if you prefer to call my first name.

Research
My research interests include high performance networking, networked systems, and distributed computing. My research objective is to find efficient and effective ways to use large scale distributed computing resources.

Software
I actively maintain two open source software projects on SourceForge. UDT has been used in many comercial products and research projects for big data transfer. Sector/Sphere is a C++ version of cloud computing stack similar to GFS/MapReduce and Hadoop.
